Each of us knows the USA as a country with a huge number of national customs and traditions, including related to sports ones. One of them – baseball – can rightfully be considered as American national symbol. Quite often, while watching American movies or reading books, we can observe Americans love and cherish this sport, support it and develop it in every possible way. Would the collapse of Israel in the Yom-Kippur War really have led to another genocide of the Jewish people?
But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the one to be ruler in Israel” (Micah 5:2, New King James Version). According to the Bible, Israel is not a new country created by the United Nations. It has been in existence since the beginning of time, and the 1948 “creation of the State of Israel,” was simply the fulfilment of biblical prophecy. This argument has been debated since 1948, and it continues to this day. However, one cannot discuss this issue without looking at it from a biblical standpoint. Would the collapse of Israel during the Yom Kippur have led to genocide of the Jewish people? Continue reading →

The Role of a Quality of the Product in the Marketing Strategy
If the product is of a low quality, all marketing efforts will fail. A nice packaging, attractive promotion or even a lower price of competitors cannot replace a quality. The successful marketing strategy is the one that has all elements balanced. This is the only way to attract customers and hold them in a long-run. Continue reading →
What do ghosts and ghost stories represent metaphorically in this tale?
What is it that makes The Legend of Sleepy Hollow scary? Is it the plot, or the conclusion we reach at the end? The storyteller opens the story with “The dominant spirit…that haunts this enchanted region, and seems to be commander-in-chief of all the powers of the air, is the apparition of a figure on horseback, without a head“ (Irving, 1820, page 2). By the end of the story we have to wonder whether the rider is the spirit of a fallen soldier or a romantic rival in disguise. Or was it maybe someone else? Continue reading →
Anne of Green Gables is a feminist novel to the extent that it is Anne Shirey’s Bildingsroman as as a feminist. To call her a “feminist” in the strict sense of the word is a bit reductionist unless it can be demonstrated in what manner, to what extent, and specifically by what definition she is a feminist. Feminism is a movement that aims to achieve equality for women in social, economic, and political spheres. Anne is unremittingly assertive and personally endearing, but whether she is a feminist is a question that many might hesitate to answer with conviction as they call to mind Lucy Maud Montgomery’s charming and loquacious protagonist. This paper will argue from textual examples that she is a feminist, whose character best embodies the nature, context, and goals of third-wave feminism, with elements of the more modern so-called “intersectional feminism.” Before making such a specific claim, however, a definition of terms is necessary. What Is the Last Book You Read That You Thought “This Is Going to Become a Classic”?
The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane: A Buried Treasure and Hidden “Classic”
I recently read a book that was timeless “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane” by Kate DiCamillo. The book tells the story of a china toy rabbit who is separated from his girl, to his annoyance, and finds himself caught up on a journey where he is moved from home to home while he is broken and lost in despair until he finds his girl again. Though a book for children to enjoy, it also underpins the age-old lesson of being grateful for what you have. This book won a literature children’s award decades ago, but I never would have learned of it if I hadn’t been looking for an ideal book for my daughter. So, it begs the question, what makes a book a “classic”? Continue reading →
