The Revenant: The Story of Estrangement and Love
The Revenant directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu is highly estimated by critics and is a type of film which represents eternal issues and twists and turns of the plot in a special way. It became a masterpiece in art – with all the skillful directing, work of cameraman, composer and a well-written script. Actors who performed perfectly also must be mentioned – Leonardo diCaprio, Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson, and Will Poulter are among them. The first one is expected to win an Oscar award for his extraordinary performing finally. Let’s move on to disclose the topics which the movie reveals.
Murder and Revenge
This issue is one of the most popular constructs of plot and here it is unseperatable from the theme of relationships between father and son as well as between companions. Fitzgerald becomes an antagonist when he attempts to kill Glass, but he eventually causes more pain to Glass, because he kills his son while Hugh is watching. Not the worth of life, but the desire for revenge is what really helps Glass to survive. However, when he is about to kill his enemy, he realizes that he should not decide on his fate and gives this decision to the hands of the Natives.
Civilization and Nature
The struggle between human and nature is a constant line in the movie. We are fascinated by the scene when a bear attacks Glass. We also are observing how Glass uses nature in an unharmful way. It supports him – a tree becomes a metaphor for a strong man and the image of his son at the same time: “And you stand in front of a tree. If you look at its branches, you swear it will fall. But if you watch the trunk, you will see its stability” (The Revenant, 2015). Those who are humiliating the Natives or trying only to use what nature gives them are loosing.
I have to mention a special way of shooting this film and great music that was chosen for tense scenes. In general, The Revenant has many chances to win lots of Oscar awards and become a film for all times and nations.
